College Application Prep

Dear Parent,

Welcome to my college application tutoring site. I am in my 21st year of teaching high school English, and I can assure you that I have plenty of tips and tools to help your child succeed. I have been working with students on the college application process for all 21 years. My favorite part of the process is when students reach out to tell me they got accepted into their top school! My expertise is not only in writing, but I also work at the collegiate level, which provides with a vast vantage point, because I frequently work with college admissions advisors. My goal is to help students sort out their interests, goals, needs, and wants, and to make the college application process exciting. Believe me, it should not be stressful, but most students feel overwhelmed! This process should be enjoyable!

Most importantly, I want to help your child in an individualized capacity that allows your child to thrive. Please see my rates and expertise below, and please also know that I am open to discussing a learning plan that works for both you and your child. Most of my students need four-five sessions, but the number of sessions varies with each student. I will frequently communicate with both you and your child to offer feedback and assessment.

Jamie was such a great resource for our family during the college application process.  My daughter loved working with Jamie and found her to be a very positive influence as they collaborated on her college selection, essay and more.  Her guidance and knowledge gave my daughter more confidence through the process and created a less stressful environment for all of us. I highly recommend Jamie especially if you are looking for someone that brings a positive and engaging attitude to the process!

What to expect

Meeting 1: We will discuss expectations and goals. If necessary we will complete a college search, to find schools of interest. We will list all colleges of interest, and we will categorize potential schools into a list of Common Application schools, Coalition Application schools, and College Website Application schools. We will make accounts for each application website, and we will add schools to our account. We will locate supplemental essays. We will make a clear timeline with specific deadlines and goals. Your child will begin their first essay, which will most likely be the Common Application essay.

Meeting 2: We will work on the Common Application website, completing the activities section. We will work on revisions for the first essay. If the student it ready, we will begin a supplemental essay. We will also determine if any schools are early action or early decision.

Meeting 3: We will continue to complete the Common Application, we will finalize our first essay. We will complete the Coalition Application, if applicable. We will work on the next supplemental essay. We will revise any essays that need work.

Meeting 4: We will reassess needs – where are we in Common Application? Essays? What other essays need completion? We will then consider other areas of interest: scholarships, financial aid, etc.

Meeting 5: If necessary, we will continue working on applications, essays, activities, etc.

Dr. Jamie Mozzone was extremely helpful in getting my daughter organized and, on a schedule, to complete all her requirements for each school she was applying to.  Dr. Mozzone helped my daughter complete her activities in her Common App along with completing her supplemental and her personal essay.  All of this was done in a timely fashion and spaced out over a couple of weeks.  There were no tears of frustration for either myself or my daughter!  We are incredible thankful for her help and guidance during this process.
